Milestone Ground, Broadway
Between the summers of 2024-2025, the Worcestershire Archaeology team excavated at Milestone Ground, Broadway on behalf of Wychavon District Council.
Milestone Ground was already known as an interesting and important site, with prehistoric, Iron Age and Roman activity. Full excavation offered a unique chance to answer questions about the site and discover more about Broadway’s history over the last 8000 years: Who lived here? What were their lives like? And how has the landscape changed?
Archaeology is vulnerable to building work as it is relatively shallow, often starting within 30-50cm of the modern ground level. The excavation has therefore preserved a record of this archaeology for future generations.

Over the next few years, detailed analysis will be carried out to help date and interpret all of the different phases of activity. On this page you can find links to latest news and updates on the site.

The site was allocated in South Worcestershire Development Plan for a mixed development, including housing and sports facilities. As a result of these plans, the excavation was undertaken by Worcestershire Archaeology between summers 2024 – 2025 on behalf of Wychavon District Council.
