In the community
We want to help people have fun while learning about the past. We run a wide range of events including talks, walks, workshops, exhibitions, family activities, school visits and community events, such as community excavations.
Our team includes staff from archive, archaeology and teaching backgrounds who can come together to support a range of projects.
Workshops & events
We like to share stories and help you discover the history and archaeology of Worcestershire. To help you get the most out of our resources, we run workshops to help you get started in research and help existing users develop further skills. We hold a wealth of information and we love to help people discover more, whatever their area of interest.
We have years of experience applying for grant-funded projects (including Heritage Lottery Fund), and can work with your community group on funded projects as a partner or advisor. We’ll help you develop and write your applications, as well as provide specific training or events.
As every project we’re involved in is different, we tailor our workshops and events to deliver a bespoke programme for you. We can:
- Train and advise on oral history
- Arrange community archaeology projects
- Deliver workshops on local history research and our collections
- Give talks
- Research and lead guided walks
- Advise on volunteer management
- Support or deliver community events
- Deliver workshops for schools
- Support arts projects
- Provide evaluation of the impact of your project to support the report to the funder.
Talks & tours
Our expert team offers a wide range of talks and tours for groups and organisations to book at their venue or at The Hive. Particularly popular are our exclusive behind-the-scenes tours of the Archive and Archaeology Service, in which you can visit the areas not usually seen by our customers, view some of our archive treasures and see artefacts recently revealed at sites we’re excavating.
Services to schools
Schools and colleges can be assured that we offer a high-standard of learning as well as an engaging experience. Our expert team will help your pupils explore the past to show how national history connects with local history through curriculum-focused workshops.
To support learning in schools we have produced a number of resource packs. These can be accessed free of charge online, at the Hive or ordered from the team.
