Archi've explored branding

Explore Your Archive is a year-long campaign which aims to celebrate the unique potential of archives to excite people, bring communities together and tell amazing stories. Delivered by the Archives and Records Association (UK & Ireland), with and on behalf of the archives and records sector, Explore Your Archive  aims to open up the incredible archival collections held by organisations – public and private – across the UK and Ireland, whatever their size and scale, and wherever they are.

We have lots planned, including:

  • Free screenings of Worcestershire on Film, showcasing historic footage from the county’s fascinating past
  • Explore the Past ‘Saturday Surgery’: drop-in advice sessions with our experienced Archive, Historic Environment Record, Archaeology and Conservation staff
  • Exhibitions and displays of original documents
  • Exhibitions and displays of original documents
  • Handy tips and a homework guide for parents of children researching local history
  • Book sale, including new and used archive, archaeology and local history stock
  • Bake sale hosted by the Friends of Worcestershire Archives

We also have an exciting line up of speakers for our series of free talks. Topics include the discovery of two King John Charters held within our collections; an insight into past residents and properties in Lich Street and a look into the executions in Worcester by a popular local author: :

  • 1.00-2.15pm – ‘King John and Worcester: Connections and Discoveries’ by Professor Nicholas Vincent

  • 3.00-3.30pm – Original documents display/comfort break
  • 3.30-4.30pm – ‘Suspended Sentences: the long and short of a century’s executions at Worcester County Gaol’ by Bob Blandford (aka Backenforth)

The day is free to attend and all are welcome. Drop in any time between 10.30 and 1pm on Level 0 to have a look around. Booking is essential if you wish to attend our series of special talks (1.00-4.30pm). Please book on The Hive website now.
