Family History Workshops

  • 8th September 2017

September is here, and for many people their thoughts turn to taking up a new activity or going back to an old hobby after the holidays. We often get more enquiries about starting family history in September and January, so we run workshops to help people get started and find out more about the sources.

Depending on what you know already and what suits you, we have a number of options. These range from a 1 hour introduction to the resources we have in The Hive, through to a two-part workshop that explains in more detail how to get started and the main sources you will need. There are also specific workshops on the main family history websites, Ancestry and Find My Past.

We have been helping people with family history for many years, and these sessions are based on our experiences helping others and from our own personal research experience.

Within the archives we hold a vast range of information about Worcestershire, for those whose ancestors used to live in the county. For those whose ancestors are from further afield we offer free access to Ancestry and Find My Past, two of the main family history websites that have billions of names on their databases.

Exploring Family History Websites

Ancestry & Find My Past are great resources, and both are available free in The Hive. How do you get started on them, how do you make the most of them, and what information is available? Our workshops focus on researching family history using these websites. Participants should already be familiar with computers and the internet.
